Sunndal Cultural Festival 2013

Sunndal Cultural Festival is a annual festival where they celebrates at the end of June and this year is held from 20 - 29 June.

There are a multitude of concerts, events and exhibitions during the festival, however, the main attraction is the music play of "Lady Arbuthnott - The mistress of Elverhøy" (Lady Arbuthnott - Frua på Elverhøy), by Norwegian playwright, Stig Nilsson with music by Lars Ramsøy-Halle.

It's a story about love and sorrow, abundance and poverty. Stig Nilsson - who wrote the libretto for the musical, said this about Barbara:
"For me the story of Lady Arbuthnott, is the story of the woman who lost everything."

The play is based on a true history of Barbara Arbuthnott, who come to Sunndal in 1866 for her honeymoon. She and her third husband, William Arbuthnott, fell in love with the Norwegian nature, the valley, the mountains and the fishing in the Driva river. The visit was repeated the next two years before she decided to settled in Sunndalsøra. In the summer of 1968 she bought half of the farm Løykja, consumption Elverhøy. The farm is now a heritage park, located on Grøa in Sunndal municipality.

Because of her strong personality and her active involvement in the community, she was legendary in her own lifetime. She made the Victoria Era a part of the culture and lifestyle of Sunndal local history. In the vernacular, she was eventually titled as "Sunndals uncrowned queen".

This years is 18 consecutive years for the music play.

Because of the annual festival I will from tomorrow on stay in Sunndalsøra for work, and I am really looking forward for it!

After all, Sunndal is well know for her wild and beautiful scenery with alpine mountains and fjords.

Trollstigen - Troll's Path

Another beautiful summer day, so we decided yet a road trip, but this time to Trollstigen - Troll's Path. Trollstigen is located in the heart of Romsdal, and is a narrow way which weaves from Osterdalen up to Stigrøra.

The road is surrounded by majestic mountains that bear names like Kongen (The King), Dronningen (The Queen) and Bispen (The Bishop). The road is part of the National Tourist Route Geiranger - Trollstigen. Trollstigen has 9 % slope and has 11 hairpin turns up the steep mountain sides.
On our way, and a little stop for lunch.

One last look of the view before we go further.

Halfway up the Troll's Path.

At the top, we saw a nice vehicle - Rewaco

Hunters Stew

Today we tried hunter stew from Toro (a company that creates ready meals). Toro hunters stew can be served with all kinds of meat, but tastes especially good with venison. The preparation was easy:
  1. Cut 500-600 g meat and brown it in the frying pan.
  2. Empty bag contents into a saucepan. Add 2 cups sour cream / crème fraîche and 6 ml of water.
  3. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly and cook for 10 minutes. Add the meat at the end of the cooking time.
  4. Serve with baked potatoes, mashed potatoes or rice.
Since we did not manage to agree on the accessories, we took both potato ball and rice. And wolá! A tasty stew with much good in. Behold of our deluxe dinner, Potato Ball with pork strips, vegetables, gravy and rice!

Atlanterhavsveien - Atlantic Ocean Road

It's a beautiful day, and we can really feel that summer is approaching. So after my roommate is done for today's work, we hit the road. We drove towards Atlanterhavsveien (Atlantic Ocean Road), and some surrounding area.

Most of the way through The Atlantic Ocean Road was filmed, but I haven't had the time to convert the the video, so only pictures taken from the car from surrounding areas.

Candy Crush

No need to say that there is hell lot of people here in China, Hong Kong, and the one thing everyone have in common, when going from destination A to B, is that E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E, goes face down and looking at their screen.

In this short stay, I noticed one particular game that goes around and looks like everyone has on their phone, Candy Crush Saga, a puzzle game where you match three or more "candies" of the same colors, and you can download the app/game for free.

People are so absorbed in this, that they repeatedly forget to get off the transport or see where they are going. Two times, I have been witness that people went on the glass/sliding door because they didn't look up, one that almost got hit by a car for walking on red, and another who broke his phone because of rage - my guess he lost the game.

Never heard of this game before I came here, despite the fact that it came out sometime in 2012. So imagine how surprised family and friends are, each time they hear that I don't have this game, when they ask what level I have come to.

After hearing the same similar question for 50ish time of why I haven't I started or why I should start and all, I ended up downloading that fucking game. Now I regret it.

At the start it seems like a good way to get the time to go while waiting for MTR (Mass Transit Railway), buses or whatever transport I need to take to get from A to B. While playing I can understand how people get addicted to it... before I know it I was suddenly at level 35, and to my disappointing, this image came up...

Screw you Candy Crush!!!
Here I thought that I have found a game that didn't need help from others to keep it going, or connect/synchronization with other social network service.

Can't stop now, can I? (- _-")

Shitty school caferteria

Had nothing good to eat at school, and it feels like the cafeteria is getting worse for everyday. Didn't had time for breakfast either, feels like I am being put on a forced diet.

And just to put the icing on the cake, the stomach decided to go rampage. Just to remark me how unhappy it is.

....

ARGH! Sooo HUNGRYyyyyyy!

Realization

Yesterday my friend broke his Samsung Galaxy SIII by losing it down the toilet, and on it's way down, hit the edge of the toilet, which also lead to smashed screen.

After I died several times of oxygen deprivation from laughing, I promised to join him to the store and buy a new one.

However, I realized that I was going to be delayed, and send him a text; "gonna be late, give me 5 min, forgot to pack to school", and send.

Took me 5 seconds after sending that text... his phone doesn't work...
 ....thank you brain

Made something simple and easy for today's dinner. Noodles with marinated salmon fillet, which was fried with lemon juice and pepper mix.

Took me less than 10 minutes before I sat in front of TV and cuddly me with The Cleveland Show and Bob's Burgers. Laziness FTW <3

The legend of St. Valentine

We all know that the 14th February is marked as a celebration of love and romance,
the day we celebrate with our beloved one with candy, flowers and gifts, or maybe just a fancy, romantic dinner at some fancy restaurant?

But where did these traditions come from? The legend of the St. Valentine was not exactly that romantic...After all, it is about a a Saint whom were martyred by the Roman Emperor Claudius II. I may not be the most romantic person here, but how is that romantic?!

One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families,
he outlawed marriage for young men.

Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine’s actions were discovered, Claudius ordered that he be put to death.

Other stories suggest that Valentine may have been killed for attempting to help Christians escape harsh Roman prisons, where they were often beaten and tortured... oh~ how romantic...

The only thing that may find some sort of romance, is the version where an imprisoned Valentine actually sent the first "valentine" greeting himself after he fell in love with a young girl, possibly his jailer's daughter, who visited him during his confinement. Before his death, it is alleged that he wrote her a letter signed "From your Valentine", an expression that is still in use today.

Outside of it, I hear only drama and tragedy around this guy. So what I'm wondering is, how did this history/legend transformed into something as romantic as today's  Valentines? I kind of find this funny, anyways...

Happy Valentines to you too.
